Sangdrossel er en spurvefugl i familien drosselfugle. Den er udbredt over det meste af Europa og i dele af Asien samt indført visse steder i Australasien.

Field marks

Slim, upright with warm olive-brown upperparts and pale underparts covered in many dark, arrowhead-shaped spots in neat rows; a warm buff wash on breast and flanks. In flight shows an orange-buff underwing.

Can be confused with

  • Redwing — Redwing is smaller with a bold pale supercilium, rusty-red flanks and underwing and a thin, drawn-out "tseeep" call — the Song Thrush lacks the red and the eyebrow.
  • Mistle Thrush — Mistle Thrush is larger and greyer with bolder, rounder spots, white tail-corners and a dry, rattling "trrrr" in flight.
  • Common Blackbird — Female Blackbird is uniform dark brown with only faint mottling — not the Song Thrush's pale ground with sharp spots in rows.

Voice

Loud, far-carrying song of short phrases each repeated 2–4 times (the old Danish memory aid is "akvavit … rigtig tit"); a skilled mimic. Call a short, thin "tsip".
