Common Blackbird
Turdus merula
Solsorten er en spurvefugl, der er udbredt over store dele af Europa samt dele af Asien, Australien og New Zealand. Det er Danmarks almindeligste fugl, og den yngler gerne i beboede områder.
Field marks
The male is all black with an orange-yellow bill and a yellow eye-ring; the female is dark brown with a faintly mottled, paler throat and breast and a dark bill. Long tail, hops on the ground.
Can be confused with
- Common Starling — Starling is glossy with a green-purple sheen and pale spots, a short tail, a pointed (yellow in spring) bill, and walks rather than hops.
- Song Thrush — Song Thrush — the closest confusion for a female blackbird — has warm brown upperparts and a whitish breast with bold dark spots.
- Ring Ouzel — Male Ring Ouzel resembles a male blackbird but shows a white crescent on the breast and pale-scaled wings.
