European Goldfinch
Carduelis carduelis
Stillitsen eller stillidsen er en fugleart i finkefamilien. Fuglen yngler i Europa og en del af Asien.
Field marks
A broad yellow patch on the black wing is present even without the head pattern. Adults have a red face bordered by black and white, a brownish body and a pale bill with a fine tip.
Can be confused with
- Common Linnet — The yellow wing bar separates Goldfinch from Linnet. Use it on juveniles too, before the red face has developed.
- Eurasian Siskin — Yellow-green streaked plumage and, in males, a black crown and chin belong to Siskin. Goldfinch has a sandy-brown body and black-and-white head alongside the broad yellow patch in the black wing.
Voice
The ringing "tickeLIT" call also enters the song, a flowing sequence of clear twittering notes.
