Eurasian Collared Dove

Tyrkerduen er en slank lille due, der er udbredt i Europa og Asien samt introduceret til dele af Nordamerika, Japan og de Caribiske øer. Artens oprindelige udbredelsesområde menes at være Sydasien, men den har siden spredt sig via Tyrkiet til Europa.
Slim, pale sandy-grey dove with a small head and long tail; the best mark is the thin black half-collar on the nape, edged white. Grey-pink head, a dark (red) eye and dark wingtips.
Can be confused with
- Common Wood Pigeon — Wood Pigeon is much larger with a white neck patch, a broad white wingbar and a pink breast; the Collared Dove is half the size, sandy, and has the thin black nape half-collar instead.
- European Turtle Dove — Turtle Dove (a scarce summer visitor) has orange-brown scaled upperparts, a black-and-white striped neck patch (not a plain half-collar) and a black tail-band; the Collared Dove is uniformly pale with a longer tail.
Plumage and variation
Male and female: Sexes alike — no visible difference in the field.
Juvenile: Juvenile is duller and lacks (or only hints at) the black nape half-collar.
Voice
A monotonous three-note "coo-COOO-cuk", repeated persistently from a roof or aerial; also a harsh, nasal call.
Behaviour
Tied to people — gardens, farms and feeding stations; perches openly on roofs, aerials and wires. Rises in a display flight and glides down with a spread tail.
When and where
A common resident near settlement throughout Denmark. It colonised the country and first bred in 1950, spreading nationwide since.
