Skestorken er en fugl, der lever i vådområder og er en smule mindre end fiskehejren. Den er hvid og har et bredt langt næb.

Field marks

A large white bird with black legs and a black bill that is flat and broad at the tip. It is slightly smaller than Grey Heron. The neck remains extended in flight. includes a yellow crest and an ochre breast patch.

Can be confused with

  • Great Egret — Large size and white plumage can suggest Great Egret. Check the bill and flight posture: Spoonbill has a flattened, widened bill tip and flies with its neck extended. Great Egret has a dagger-shaped bill and pulls its neck in.
  • White Stork — White Stork is larger, with black wing feathers and a red bill and legs. Spoonbill’s legs and bill are black, its plumage white; the widened end of the bill is its clearest distinction.
