Tornsangeren er en 14 centimeter stor spurvefugl, der yngler i det meste af Europa og det vestlige Asien. Om vinteren trækker den sydpå til det tropiske Afrika, Arabien og Indien.

Field marks

Slim, long-tailed with a gleaming white throat, chestnut fringes forming a rusty wing panel, and white outer tail feathers; males are grey-headed.

Can be confused with

  • Lesser Whitethroat — Lesser Whitethroat is greyer with a dark cheek mask and no rusty wing panel, and its song is a dry, rattling run on one pitch — not the scratchy, dancing phrase.

Voice

The song is a short, eager, scratchy phrase of about a second — Danes remember it as "vil I … bare se"; calls a "wed-wed" and a drawn-out rough "tschehr".
