Willow Warbler
Phylloscopus trochilus
Løvsangeren er en spurvefugl af løvsangerfamilien. Den når en længde på 10-11 centimeter.
Small, sleek with no wingbars: green-brown above, yellowish-white below, with a clear pale . The pale pinkish legs and long primary projection are the best marks.
Can be confused with
- Common Chiffchaff — Chiffchaff has dark legs, a shorter primary projection and a dumpier, duller look; its song is a metronomic two-note phrase against the Willow Warbler’s descending cadence, and its call a shorter "hweet".
Plumage and variation
Juvenile: Juvenile is noticeably yellower below than the adults.
Voice
The song is a soft, descending run of notes, starting hesitantly, swelling and dying away wistfully. The call is a disyllabic "hoo-eet".
Behaviour
Forages restlessly through the foliage for insects, also taken in flight. Nests near the ground in deciduous woods, bogs and plantations.
When and where
A common breeder nationwide, most numerous in west Jutland, but the population has fallen over 30 percent and the species is red-listed vulnerable (2017) — attributed to worsening conditions in its West African winter quarters.
