Jernspurven, også kaldet brunellen, er en lille spurvefugl, der oftest lever en skjult tilværelse i skove og krat. Den er udbredt i hele den tempererede del af Europa og i dele af Asien.

Field marks

Small, unobtrusive bird: lead-grey head and breast, streaked brown back and a thin, pointed dark bill — the fine insect-eater’s bill is what separates it from the sparrows.

Can be confused with

  • House Sparrow — House Sparrow has a thick conical seed bill and lacks the Dunnock’s lead-grey head and breast; the Dunnock’s bill is thin and pointed.

Voice

The song is a fast, thin, tinkling warble — like a little machine; the call a shrill, persistent "tseep".
