Meadow Pipit
Anthus pratensis
Engpiber er en mindre spurvefugl, der er udbredt i Europa og det vestlige Asien. I Danmark er den en almindelig ynglefugl i åbne, udyrkede områder som strandenge eller ved søbredder.
Small, nondescript streaked brown with whitish, finely streaked underparts, pale reddish legs and a very long hind claw. Walks with a trip on the ground.
Can be confused with
- Tree Pipit — Tree Pipit is very similar but has a yellowish wash on the breast with bolder streaks, a shorter hind claw and perches in trees; best told by voice.
Behaviour
Feeds walking on the ground in the open; rises in an up-and-down song flight over the breeding ground.
When and where
A common breeder on open, uncultivated ground (coastal meadows, heaths); mainly March–November and very common on migration in September–October.
